I originally bought this book because like the author, I’m from the small town where the story takes place and I personally know who the real Ernie is. The awareness of the failures and faults of the criminal justice system are presented in a novel 50 years old that could be written today. I was also impressed with the cover, a departure from the standard Cliff Notes-like covers of past Instaread books. The people in charge of this ship aren't anything to brag about. Even saying that, I still would have found the novel to be only mediocre if it hadn't been for the ending. Of course, that entails the resurrection of its individual members who have been incorporated into the body of Christ. I wish this book was around when my daughter was growing up. A lot of great activities to use in a number of situations and with a lot of different groups.
